TOKYO ? The final season of 24, which was pulled from TV Tokyo?s April schedule due to the radiation plotline being deemed unsuitable in light of the ongoing Fukushima nuclear disaster, will be aired on Fox?s Japanese cable channel starting July 6.
The early seasons of 24, shown on Fox cable and Fuji TV ? Japan?s biggest net ? were big hits, with comedians doing impressions of the Chloe O?Brian character and Kiefer Sutherland appearing in TV commercials as Jack Bauer. ?
The rental DVD release of the final season went ahead as scheduled, but it has yet to be broadcast on television in Japan.
Fox will rerun season 7 in June, and secured a Guinness world record for the 168-hour consecutive broadcasting of all seven seasons.
The situation at the stricken Fukushima Dai-Ichi nuclear plant remains serious and TEPCO, the utility that operates it, said Sunday that the initial meltdown of the fuel core was worse than previously thought at the No.2 and 3 reactors. That followed its admission on Thursday that the fuel core at the No.1 reactor had also been damaged and that its containment vessel was likely leaking radioactive water. ? ??
A further 9,000 people began evacuating Sunday from just outside the 12-mile exclusion zone around the plant due to continuing high radiation readings.
