REPRESENTATIVE PHILIP CORTEZ ELECTED CHAIRMAN OF TEXAS VETERANS CAUCUS?
by: Rep. Cortez, Philip
02/12/2013San Antonio/Austin- State Representative Philip Cortez of San Antonio was elected by his peers in the Senate and House to serve as Chairman for the Texas Veterans Caucus today. The Texas Veterans Caucus is a bipartisan, bicameral group of State legislators who have served in the armed forces or have an interest in issues affecting veterans and their families.
"I am extremely honored as a freshman legislator to receive the faith of my colleagues to vote for my Chairmanship," stated Representative Cortez. "Veteran issues have always been one of my top four priorities and I will continue to serve my country as a Captain in the Air Force Reserve, and every Texan as a new member of House of Representatives."
The Texas Veterans Caucus was formed to serve as an educational platform for communication between the legislators and the community. Former Chair of the Texas Veterans Caucus is Bexar County colleague to Representative Cortez, Representative Joe Farias. "Representative Farias has been a mentor and inspiration to me for the past several years," Representative Cortez stated. "I have never met another public servant who has fought harder to address veteran needs in our community." Serving with Chairman Cortez as Vice-Chair of the Caucus will be Senator Brian Birdwell of Branbury
