Overview: We are seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow (PDF) to work for one
year, renewable up to two years, on a research project funded through the
Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) grant, Emerging Health
Researchers and the Commercialization of Academic Science. This project
aims to build a rich body of quantitative and qualitative data about
Canadian health researchers' experiences of commercialization and will
critically examine, through conceptual analysis and empirically derived
qualitative evidence, the advantages and disadvantages of commercializing
health research in Canada. Further information about the research can be

Duties: The PDF will be capable of working collaboratively with the study
team of anthropologists and legal scholars and report primarily to the
Principal Investigator, Matthew Herder, Faculties of Medicine & Law,
Dalhousie University. Responsibilities of the PDF will include the review
and critique of relevant scientific, legal, ethical and social science
literature, as well as the development and elucidation of new perspectives
and approaches. The PDF will be expected to play a crucial role in
qualitative data collection and analysis. The PDF will be responsible to
recruit and interview health researchers and will facilitate the creation
of "digital narratives". Writing for lay journals, news media, and on-line
publications and blogs is anticipated in addition to publishing in
relevant peer-reviewed journals. Presentations of his/her research may
include public events as well as professional conferences.
Qualifications: Applicants must have a doctorate in anthropology or
sociology. Expertise in ethnographic and qualitative research and in
science and technology studies (STS) is required. Knowledge of policy
analysis and research ethics is an asset.
