Governor helps prepare care packages for troops

New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan and other volunteers packaged American staples like beef jerky, gum, ramen noodles and candy for American troops serving in Afghanistan.

The goal was to stuff and mail 1,000 boxes.

Paul Moore, co-founder of Moore Mart, started the event seven years ago. Since then, he and other volunteers have sent more than 50,000 care packages to grateful men and women in the armed services.

?They appreciate the fact that we are thinking of them,? Moore said. ?They haven?t been forgotten and that?s a real connection.?

Moore said Moore Mart started as a grassroots effort and then took off.? Businesses and people who want to help donated the supplies.

Hassan stuffed a few boxes of her own and commended volunteers.

?What a great example of what the Granite State does best to mobilize and help the world,? Hassan said.
