Google Glass with prescription lenses coming this year - MSNBC.com

Google's highly anticipated Glass wearable computer is coming later this year, and while it's been spotted in combination with prescription lenses, there's been no official word on compatibility ? until today, when Google confirmed that they're hard at work on it and offered a picture of the latest frames.

The news came in a blog post by the Glass team showing one of their early testers, Greg Priest-Dorman, wearing the device atop a pair of what look like ordinary prescription glasses. Other frames will be available if the user has a particular shape they prefer.

The post also notes that the design of Glass is modular, meaning it can be put on and removed easily. That doesn't mean you'll be able to stick it on your existing glasses or sunglasses, although an accessory to do so is easy enough to imagine.

As for timing, the glasses-mounted Glass will be available later this year, probably for the consumer release, but not for the "Explorer" early adopter group, Google said. No word on cost, although the system itself is likely to be at least $1,000.
