11 Things We Loved From E3 2013

Microsoft and Sony finally talked specifics on their consoles' capabilities and, by extension, on the future of gaming. In the weeks leading up to the event, Microsoft's announcement of the Xbox One's "always-on" requirement and used-game fee, which gives third-party publishers the ability to monetize used games (among other things), had many enraged or just confused. For Sony, this was PR gold?the company seized on it to argue that the PS4 is everything the Xbox One isn't.

The consoles share similar specs, with the PS4 matching Xbox One's 500 GB hard drive and both sporting newly designed controllers. However, the PS4's $399 price, $100 cheaper than its competitor, was cause for gamer jubilation.

Not everything about the PS4 press conference was sunshine and rainbows. Sony also announced a policy change with PlayStation Plus accounts by requiring membership for online multiplayer gaming, a service that was previously free. Streaming Netflix and Hulu remains, thankfully, fee-free.
